This offering will always be special to me. It is my first flagship product as Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering Lead. It taught me the power of identifying and answering the customers’ unspoken need.

The Problem: Customer complaints of keypad and touchscreen breaking in the field.

The Work: Though customer engagements and VOC/OVOC activities we found the UNSPOKEN need was to minimize vehicle downtime. By solutioning the right problem, we reduced downtime from 2hrs down to 15 minutes. The VM1 allowed my company, for the first time, win major contracts against Zebra\Symbol. We redefined market expectations in a Vehicle Mounted Computer and forced the competition to adapt. Over 10 years later, the VM1 is still dominant in the market, and still copied by the competition today.
